Thank you for posting this! My parents are in a safe zone, but my uncles are in Zone B, pretty much right next to the Zone A part of Jamaica Bay. They are no stranger to flooding - their little wooden home on a canal off the Bay has been flooded so many times that there's a whole series of water marks on the side of the house with small years written next to them, and the major appliances are all up on blocks that are above all but a few of those marks. (My one uncle is a skilled carpenter and has rebuilt the underside of the house several times, which is how it has managed to not fall into the canal like some of their neighbor's places.) The uncles will surely be resistant to leaving their house even if the need truly arises, so I can pass this info along to my mother so that she can slowly wear them down and get them to stay by her until the storm passes :) She grew up in that same house, so they might listen to her!
