Still figuring out this DW thing

Hi, peeps. I created a new dreamwidth account very early this morning because I was annoyed by the frequent DDoS attacks at LiveJournal. I'll probably be continuing to post at DW but participating in communities at LJ. Right now it seems like the least frustrating way to remain connected.

Feel free to friend me over at DW (or, er, here at DW); I'll likely reciprocate. I'm leaving access open at DW for the time being, at least until the spambots discover it the way they discovered my LJ account.

It's hard to get used to it. I still prefer LJ but if everyone moves out to DW we are covered! haha

I've got a website at dreamwidth too! But I haven't backed up my stuff like I should. I'm planning on doing that some tonight.

Just don't stop crossposting to LJ! I don't check DW FL as much as I should LOLOL <3

Yeah—the issue is largely that I have so little energy these days that if I can't post when my brain says post, I never do. So instant gratification is important, and DW helps with that.

:) I've set it to automatically cross-post, and I reckon I'll be on LJ more often, just posting from DW, you know?

*nodnod* Makes sense! <3

I hadn't seen that, though [livejournal.com profile] elainegrey had posted a brief summary of such thoughts, as had [livejournal.com profile] whereisjoy. DreamWidth itself is encouraging its users to support LiveJournal by maintaining our presence as much as possible but not doing things like exporting our entries from LJ so we don't contribute to the overloading of the servers.

So yeah, it's super-important to support LiveJournal by not abandoning the service or stopping payments if one makes them (which...I don't since I bought a permanent account a long time ago before it was a totally commercial enterprise).

I'm not interested in leaving LJ. It's been my primary platform for both social networking and for blogging since 2003, and while some folks will be leaving, most of my friends have been around long enough that nobody's going anywhere. But with my energy being as low as it is, I do want to be able to write a post when I have mustered up the energy to do so, and DW (with its LJ-crossposting capacity) allows me to do this. Furthermore, it allows my readers at LiveJournal (such as they are) to read what I've got to write.

It's the double-bind of wanting to support freedom of speech everywhere but not being able to speak myself very frequently due to health crap. My jumping on the DW bandwagon now is an attempt not to let the inconvenience of LJ's DDoS attacks keep me from participating in public writing altogether.

BTW, are you going to [livejournal.com profile] naughtyfox's shindig next week? I'll be saving up my energy to have some fun with the gang :)
